  • Director of Youth Ministry

    Overview
    Are you passionate about walking alongside young people as they grow in faith,
    discover their identity in Christ, and build lifelong community within the church? Mount
    Olympus Presbyterian Church, located in beautiful Salt Lake City, is seeking an
    enthusiastic, spiritually grounded, and relational leader to serve as our Director of Youth
    Ministries.
    This is a unique opportunity to lead a well-established and congregation-supported
    youth ministry, guiding students in their faith journey through worship, service,
    fellowship, and meaningful relationships. If you're energized by mentoring teens,

    Essential Functions
    • Foster a life of personal prayer and devotion in youth.
    • Provide opportunities for students to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • Recruit, train, lead, and care for youth ministry volunteers, including regular
    meetings to equip and support lay leadership.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Family Ministry and Family Ministry Elder(s) to
    maintain clear, measurable, and attainable goals for youth ministry.
    • Serve as the primary communication link between youth ministry and church
    staff, Session, and congregation; attend staff meetings regularly.
    • Lead youth fellowship gatherings, retreats, mission trips, and other ministry
    activities.
    • Use social media, email, and other tools to engage youth and families and keep
    the congregation informed.
    • Provide pastoral care to youth and their families.
    • Model relational discipleship by investing personally in the lives of youth and their
    families, with special attention to those with special needs.
    • Oversee the process of youth membership and baptism.
    • Partner with the Director of Family Ministry to create a unified annual calendar
    and ensure smooth transitions between Children’s and Youth Ministries, and
    between Middle School and High School.
    • Ensure all youth ministry activities comply with church safety policies, including
    background checks, safe ratios, and emergency procedures.
    • Plan and manage the youth ministry budget responsibly to support ministry
    goals.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in youth ministry.
    • Strong understanding of youth development and spiritual formation.
    • Effective communication and leadership skills, especially with youth.
    • Strong organizational, planning, and administrative abilities.


    Other Requirements
    • Engage in personal, spiritual, and professional growth through study and
    continuing education.
    • Lead programming that invites students to experience Jesus Christ and become
    passionate followers.
    • Collaborate with the Pastor/Head of Staff and Director of Family Ministry.
    • Observe a weekly Sabbath for rest and renewal.


    Physical Factors
    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to
    perform essential functions. The role requires regular communication, standing, walking,
    and reaching. Occasionally, lifting up to 40 pounds may be required. The work
    environment may range from moderate to high noise levels.


    Accountability
    An annual performance review will be conducted by the Director of Family Ministry and
    reported to the Personnel Committee of the Session. Input will be gathered from those
    who work closely with the Director of Youth Ministries. The Personnel Committee will
    also annually review compensation and benefits and make recommendations to the
    Session.

    Position Hours
    Hours are flexible, with a preference for candidates available to work full-time
    (approximately 32 hours per week or more).


    Salary and Benefits
    The full-time salary range for this position is $55,000 to $60,000, based on experience
    and qualifications. Moving assistance may be provided for out-of-area candidates.
    Benefits are available for employees working 32 hours per week or more.
